Morgan, called for a net 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) high, a 25 ft × 50 ft (7.6 m × 15.2 m) court, and any number of players. A match was composed of nine innings with three serves for each team in each inning, and no limit to the number of ball contacts for each team before sending the ball to the opponents’ court.
When the setter digs the ball, the libero is typically responsible for the second ball and sets to the front row attacker. To make an overhand set, the libero must be standing behind (and not stepping on) the 3-meter line; otherwise, the ball cannot be attacked above the net in front of the 3-meter line. The national championship match, which has long been played on Saturday night, has moved to Sunday afternoon this year to be televised for the first time on ABC. The move to network television earlier this year brought the biggest audience ever for the NCAA women’s basketball final, so we’ll see what impact it has on volleyball. The introduction of rally scoring helped to speed up the pace of play as well as the consistency of match times. The sport quickly became known as volleyball after an observer, Alfred Halstead, noticed the volleying nature of the game at its first exhibition match in 1896, played at the International YMCA Training School (now called Springfield College). The first rulebooks for the sport were produced in the early 1900s, with the first international federation (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB)) following in 1947.

Japan and the Soviet Union played each of the first four gold medal matches at the Summer Olympics from 1964 to 1980. A team can hit the ball to each other a maximum of three times before returning it to the other side of the court.
In competition each team consists of six players, three of whom take the forward positions in a row close to and facing the net, the other three playing the back court. The opponents receive the ball and return it across the net in a series of not more than three contacts with the ball. This must be done without any player catching or holding the ball while it is in play and without any player touching the net or entering the opponents’ court area. The ball must not touch the floor, and a player may not touch the ball twice in succession.
It was so dominant after World War I that its second XI was allowed into the top division in 1925.[14] The following year these two sides shared the national title, and the second XI won it outright on several occasions. Irate students staged a walkout at the school last week to protest the sanctioning of their teachers and administrators, arguing that the teen should be allowed to compete as a girl.
